What it Does
Aaron Light makes Mac OS 8 look more like Mac OS 8. Although Apple has updated the Macintosh user interface in Mac OS 8, many third party applications do not yet take full advantage of these changes. Aaron Light patches these applications to use the new appearance, giving your Macintosh a more uniform interface. In particular, Aaron Light patches progress bars (including the startup progress bar and some intdeterminate progress bars or barber poles), floating windows, and dialog box backgrounds, as well as fixing a number of menu drawing glitches.
Aaron Light also substitutes Espi Sans Bold 10 for Chicago 12. Many people prefer Espi Sans Bold 10 to the Chicago and Charcoal system font options provided under Mac OS 8. If you want to use Espi Sans Bold 10 as your system font, select Chicago in the Appearance Control Panel and Aaron Light will do the rest. You do not need to install any Espi or Espy fonts for Aaron Light to do this.
What You Need
Aaron Light requires Mac OS 8. If you are running System 7 and want the new Mac OS 8 interface, you should try my other shareware programs Aaron (not Aaron Light) or Kaleidoscope, or just upgrade to Mac OS 8.
How to Install It
Just drop the Aaron Light extension into your Extensions folder (or drop it onto your System Folder and let the Finder put it where it belongs) and restart your Mac. To disable Aaron Light, just drag it back out of your Extensions folder, or disable it with your Extensions Manager. Aaron Light makes no permanent changes to your system.
You do not need to install any fonts to use Aaron Light. The Espi Sans Bold 10 font substitution feature uses a copy of that font embedded in the Aaron Light file.
How to Pay
NOTE: Aaron Light is free for registered users of Aaron. You can remove the Annoying Shareware Message in Aaron Light the same way as you did for Aaron.
Aaron Light is shareware; it is NOT free. If you use Aaron Light for more than a week or two, you should pay a $5 registration fee. You can pay by credit card, check, or cash in various currencies. Registrations are handled by Kagi, a payment processing service. To register, use the enclosed ﾒRegisterﾓ application to create a customized form, which you then mail or e-mail to Kagi, whose address is given on the form (if you cannot find Kagi's address, then you are doing something wrong).
Alternatively, you can register via credit card over the web using the Kagi Online Order Processing service. The URL is <http://order.kagi.com/?GL&S> (or <http://order.kagi.com/?GL> if your browser cannot handle secure transactions).
Once Kagi processes your payment, which takes up to a week from when they receive it, they e-mail you a message with subject ﾒThanks for your paymentﾓ containing instructions to remove the shareware reminder.
